ABOUT US
Seva Bharathi, a non-profit, voluntary service organization registered under the Trust Act (Reg. No. 119 date 15.1.1993) is involved in a number of activities to help people in distress. It has, in the last thirteen years of its existence, touched the lives of many people in its efforts to help those who are in need. In this process, the Seva Bharathi family has grown to include professionals in various fields, concerned Citizens and also beneficiaries of various activities. Seva Bharathi is having Projects, main among them being Chetana.
Chetana, a developmental center for the challenged provides therapeutic and educational services encompassing early intervention, academic and non-formal education, pre- vocational training, vocational training and respite care to children and young adults with Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Downs’ Syndrome, Autism and other Development Challenges.
The programme for every individual student encompasses a range of need- based Specialised training that is provided by our core team of dedicated Medical, Paramedical and Special education professionals. We are also fortunate to have committed volunteers who work with the team to provide these services.
FACILITIES OFFERED
Chetana is a day-center programme and has 63 students attending school 5 days a week from 9.30 A.M. to 3.00 P.M. and provides the following facilities.
1. Disabled - friendly Transportation to and from home.
2. Special Education – Screening, Identification, Assessment, Individual Education Programmes, Evaluation.
3. Pre - Vocational Skills and Vocational skills training.
4. Teacher Student Ratio 1: 5 or 6.
5. Fully- equipped Paediatric Physiotherapy Unit consisting of Ball Pool, Trampolines, Tread Mill, Flexion Disc, Pusled Electro Magnetic Therapy Machine, Bolsters, Bolster Swing, Therapy Balls, Step Trainer etc.
6.Speech Therapy inputs.
7. Music, creative arts, dance, games, picnics, excursions, festivals.
8. Weekly visits by Paediatrician and Homeopath.
9. Referral to other specialists whenever required.
10. Specialised furniture, teaching aids and appliances.
11. Almost 85 per cent of the beneficiaries from lower and lower middle income families.
Training at Chetana focuses on maximum independence with self-care, communication, syllabus and need-based training, life skills and above all, the confidence to face the world and its challenges.

ACTIVITIES / ACHIEVEMENT
1. Intervention and support for children with Learning Challenges.
2. Asha Jyothi, a recreation club for the disabled.
3. Weekly Medical Camps providing diagnosis and treatment free of cost.
4. Periodical (Special) Medical Camps to cover Gynecological, Dental and General Patients.
5. Organizing voluntary Blood Donation Camps and co-ordinating activities with blood banks to help Patients with Thalassaemia & Haemophilia.
6. Providing aids and appliances to the chronically ill/ temporarily disabled through our Medical Equipment Bank.
7. Disha, a family counseling centre.
8. Working with Poor Families by providing academic assistance to the children and health assistance to all.
9. Short Stay Home for Children of 8 years & above.
10. Hindu Vivaha Vedike & Promotion of Sanskrit.
Achievements/Awards:
Our Children have won several Awards and Prizes in Local level, District level as well as State level events / competitions. However, we give below the details of only National events.
a) Mr. Girish, one of our students was selected for the Karnataka Foot Ball Team, which had won the Gold Medal in the Special Olympics National event held at Kolkata in 2005.
b) Kum. Rashmi, another student has been selected for the National Basket Ball event for the Special Children.
c) Kum. Dhanya has been selected for the National Roller Skating event for the Special Children.
d) Mr. Naeem has successfully completed Computer Science subject for X STD in National Open School in his first attempt itself.
